TuNesDay Forgotten 45: The Motels

By Jeff Winfield Dec 3, 2024 | 3:43 PM

For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to December 3rd, 1983 for The Motels with “Suddenly Last Summer”.

The band out of Berkeley, California was formed in the early 70’s and moved to L.A. in 1975 and played some gigs and we’re offered a record deal, but it didn’t work out.  In 1978 the band reformed with lead singer Martha Davis and in the late 70’s started gaining the attention of record companies yet again, this time signing with Capitol Records.

Their first album was rejected by the label as “too weird” but in 1982 they had their first hit “Only the Lonely” which went to #9.  In 1983 they released their “Little Robbers” album and the Motels once again hit the top ten for the final time with “Suddenly Last Summer” which also went to #9.

On a chilly December day it’s the Motels with “Suddenly Last Summer” today’s Forgotten 45.
