Today is the 40th Anniversary of the release of Madonna’s biggest selling album ever “Like a Prayer”! Released on this date in 1984 for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we’ll play the 4th single from that album “Angel”.
Fresh off the success of her debut album, Madonna really wanted to put her stamp on her second project. So much so that she wanted to produce the album. Her record company said no, but allowed her to choose Nile Rodgers to produce because she loved his work on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” project.
The rest is music history, “Like a Virgin” was certified Diamond for sales of over 10 million copies and became the first female album to sell over 5 million copies. With hits like the title track, “Material Girl”, “Dress You Up”, and “Angel”, all of which ended up top 5 hits.
