105.7 KOKZ is your home for classic American Top 40 shows every weekend! This Saturday morning join us a 8 for a 4 hour show from November 10th, 1979! One of the great songs you’ll hear on the countdown is today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from the Commodores with “Still”.
The band out of Tuskegee, Alabama recorded 17 top 40 hits between 1974 and 1985 but it didn’t take long for the talents of their lead singer Lionel Richie to emerge. His ballads account for both of the Commodores #1 songs, “Three Times a Lady” in 1978 and “Still” went to the top the next year from their album “Midnight Magic” which also featured the hit “Sail On”.
Lionel went solo in 1982 and went on to add five more #1 hits to his legendary career. You’ll find him taking up residence in Las Vegas where he’s doing six shows this month, including tonight at Wynn’s.
I found a video of Lionel featuring a righteous late 70’s fro on the Midnight Special. It’s the Commodores with “Still” today’s Forgotten 45.
