Monday’s Forgotten 45: Remembering Quincy Jones

By Jeff Winfield Nov 4, 2024 | 3:43 PM

The legendary Quincy Jones passed away Sunday night at the age of 91.  So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we remember him with his 1981 hit “Just Once” sung by James Ingram.

To say that Quincy Jones was a legend would be an understatement. He toured with Count Basie, arranged records for Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.   He composed the soundtrack to “Roots”, produced Michael Jackson’s biggest albums, and oversaw the all-star recording of “We Are the World”!

His 1981 album “The Dude” was nominated for 12 Grammy Awards (it won three) and featured the hits “One Hundred Ways” and “Just Once” both featuring James Ingram on lead vocals.  Both songs went on to become top 20 hits.

RIP  Quincy Jones.  I found a video of James Ingram signing “Just Once” on Soul Train back in 1982.  It’s today’s Forgotten 45.
