Friday’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is a song you can hear again Sunday afternoon at 4 on Retro Pop Reunion with Joe Cortese.  On the charts this week in 1988 it’s Information Society with “What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy)”.

The American synth-pop band was inspired by early new wave like Devo and Gary Numan and for “What’s On Your Mind”, they were looking for a sound like “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel and Duran Duran.  The song started as a ten minute instrumental jam, but they put the rest of the song together after being pressured by their record company to release their project.

The song spent 25 weeks on the charts and went all the way to #3 in the Fall of 1988.  And yes “Pure Energy” is done by Spock on Star Trek.  Sending you into the weekend with a fun 80’s tune, it’s Information Society with today’s Forgotten 45.
