Wednesday’s Forgotten 45: The Knack

By Jeff Winfield Oct 16, 2024 | 3:43 PM

105.7 KOKZ is your home for classic American Top 40 shows every weekend!  This Saturday morning at 8 (4 hour show!) Casey Kasem plays the top songs from October 20th, 1979, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from The Knack with “Good Girls Don’t”.

For a few months in 1979 The Knack owned the music world!  Their debut single “My Sharona” rocketed to #1 and spent six weeks there and the song was the #1 song for ALL of 1979!  Their debut album “Get the Knack” was recorded in just two weeks at a cost of only $18,000.  A great investment in an album was that certified platinum.

“Good Girls Don’t” was the follow-up to “My Sharona” and was a song that had been written back in 1972 and the band really didn’t want to include it on the album, but at the urging of their producer, they did, and the song became their 2nd of 3 Top 40 hits reaching #11 on the charts.

A band that really stood out in the era of disco, it’s The Knack with “Good Girls Don’t” today’s Forgotten 45.
