This Sunday morning at 8 join 105.7 KOKZ for another classic American Top 40 show from the 80’s! This weekend Casey Kasem features the top songs from October 4th, 1986, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Anita Baker with “Sweet Love”.
Anita Baker was born in Toledo, Ohio and was abandoned by her mother at age 2, and was raised by a foster family in Detroit. More tragedy struck at the age of 12 when her foster parents died and she was then raised by her foster sister. Despite all of that, she began singing in nightclubs at the age of 16. She joined funk group Chapter 8 from 1975 to 79 but the record company didn’t think Baker “had star potential”.
It turned out they were wrong. In 1986 she released her album “Rapture” that went on to sell over 5 million copies, fueled by the success of her first hit “Sweet Love” which won a Grammy Award and become a top ten hit. Her follow-up album “Giving You the Best That I Got” also went 5 times platinum and earned her three more Grammys.
Check out a live performance of “Sweet Love” by Anita Baker, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
