By Jeff Winfield Sep 11, 2024 | 3:43 PM

This Sunday morning on American Top 40 the 80’s, Casey Kasem takes us back to September 20th, 1980!  One of the songs you’ll hear on the show is today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Robbie Dupree it’s “Hot Rod Hearts”.

The Brooklyn born singer said his musical influences growing up included Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke.  In 1980 he released his self-titled debut album which delivered his only two top 40 hits.  “Steal Away” was a #6 hit and “Hot Rod Hearts” went to #15.

In 1981 Robbie was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist, but ultimately lost to Christopher Cross.  I found a performance of the song on the show Solid Gold where he’s introduced by Marilyn McCoo and the puppet Madame!  It’s Robbie Dupree with “Hot Rod Hearts” today’s Forgotten 45!
