For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we remember Sergio Mendes who passed away late last week at the age of 83. His biggest hit on the American charts was “Never Gonna Let You Go”.
Written by the Hall of Fame husband and wife team of Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, the song appears on Sergio’s self-titled 1983 album. The Brazilian composer was looking for a ballad since all of the other songs were up-tempo. He found it in “Never Gonna Let You Go”, the song was sung by Joe Pizzulo and Leeza Miller and went to #4 on the charts.
Sadly Sergio passed away on September 5th surrounded by his wife and family in Los Angeles at the age of 83. Check out this performance of “Never Gonna Let You Go” by Sergio Mendes, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
