Friday’s Forgotten 45: John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band

By Jeff Winfield Sep 6, 2024 | 3:43 PM

It’s CyHawk week in Iowa as the Hawkeyes and Cyclones do battle tomorrow afternoon in Iowa City.  The game will be televised by CBS, the first time an Iowa game has been on the network since October 19th, 1985 when #1 Iowa defeated #2 Michigan (I was there!).  So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to ’85 for John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band for “C-I-T-Y”.

Formed in 1972, the band was largely ignored by major record companies because of comparisons to Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band.  They received their big break when producer Kenny Vance offered them the chance to record music for his movie “Eddie & the Cruisers” which delivered the #7 hit “On the Dark Side”.

In 1985 they released their follow-up album “Tough All Over” and “C-I-T-Y” went to #18 on the Hot 100 and became their last top 40 hit.    So while the party is getting cranked up in Iowa C-I-T-Y, check out the video from John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band with today’s Forgotten 45!
