On Wednesday I played “Is She Really Going Out With Him” by Joe Jackson as our Forgotten 45 at 3:45. Well I saw that it was on this date in 1989, 35 years ago that Cars front man Ric Ocasek married supermodel Paulina Porizkova. Is that what Joe was talking about?! For today’s choice, we go back to 1985 for The Cars with “Tonight She Comes”.
The band out of Boston formed in 1976 and by 1978 their debut album had sold 6 million copies and Rolling Stone magazine readers named them Best New Artists. Between 1978 and 1988 the band delivered 4 top 10 hits “Shake It Up”, “You Might Think”, “Drive”, and “Tonight She Comes” which was featured on their Greatest Hits album.
Ric and Paulina’s marriage lasted 28 years before splitting in 2017. Sadly two years later in 2019, Ric Ocasek passed away at the age of 75. Check out the video for “Tonight She Comes” from the Cars, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
