Today is Robert Plant’s 76th birthday! The legendary front man of Led Zeppelin has had an incredible career which included several solo and group projects. For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we remember The Honeydrippers with “Sea of Love”.
Plant formed the group in 1981 because he really wanted to create a rock band with a heavy rhythm & blues component, Robert gathered a group of legends including Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Nile Rodgers, and even Paul Schaffer from David Letterman to record The Honeydrippers Volume One in 1984.
The 5 song mini-album satisfied his need to record some of his favorite songs from the 50’s, one of them “Sea of Love” became the biggest hit from the project, reaching #3 on the charts in 1985.
He’s still on the road today, appearing this week in California doing a set of shows with Alison Krauss. Happy Birthday to Robert Plant! Check out the video to “Sea of Love” from the Honeydrippers, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
