Throwback Thursday Forgotten 45: The Blues Brothers

By Jeff Winfield Aug 1, 2024 | 3:43 PM

Sunday morning at 8 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 80’s.  This weekend Casey takes you back to August 2nd, 1980!  It’s where we found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from the Blues Brothers with “Gimme Some Lovin”!

John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd were Jake & Elwood Blues and they first made their appearance as the opening act for Steve Martin then as the musical guest on SNL.  Of course it led to the classic 1980 movie directed by John Landis (I hate Illnois Nazi’s!) and featured performances by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and James Brown.

The Blues Brothers first chart hit was “Soul Man” in 1979 and “Gimme Some Lovin” became their 2nd and final top 20 hit reaching #18 in 1980 from the movie soundtrack.

Check out the classic scene from the movie as they play the song at a country bar and transition into Rawhide!  It’s today’s Forgotten 45.
