Flashback Friday’s Forgotten 45: Styx

By Jeff Winfield Jul 5, 2024 | 3:43 PM

This Sunday morning at 8 on American Top 40 the 80’s, Casey Kasem features the top songs from July 9th, 1983.  Today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is a song you can hear again on the show, from Styx “Don’t Let It End”.

The song, written and sung by Dennis DeYoung was the 3rd single from their album “Kilroy Was Here”.  In fact, “Don’t Let It End” was supposed to be the first single from the album, but the record company decided to go with “Mr. Roboto”.

Regardless, the song became yet another top 10 hit for the band, reaching #6 this week in 1983.  It was the last top 10 hit for the band in the 80’s and they charted one more hit in 1990 with “Show Me the Way”.

I remember seeing this tour at the UNI Dome and it was clear the band was kind of going through the motions, but the song still has the signature Dennis DeYoung sound.  “Don’t Let It End” is today’s Forgotten 45.
