TuNesDay Forgotten 45: Michael Jackson

By Jeff Winfield Jul 2, 2024 | 3:43 PM

It was on this date in 1988 that Michael Jackson became the first recording artist in history to have 5 #1 songs from the same album.  So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, it’s Michael with “Dirty Diana”.

The album was “Bad”, the follow-up to “Thriller” and the third and final collaboration with producer Quincy Jones.  While Michael was nervous about the project, it turns out he didn’t need to be.  “Bad” sold over 11 million copies in the U.S. and over 45 million copies worldwide.

As I mentioned, the Michael made history on this date in 1988 when “Dirty Diana” reached #1 following “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, “Bad”, “The Way You Make Me Feel”, and “Man in the Mirror” at the top of the chart.  “Dirty Diana” was similar in style to “Beat It” and this time Michael hired Steve Stevens from Billy Idol’s band to play guitar on the song.

From 1988 our TuNesDay Forgotten 45 is from Michael Jackson with “Dirty Diana”.
