Friday’s Forgotten 45: Richard Marx

By Jeff Winfield Jun 28, 2024 | 3:43 PM

Every Saturday night at 9 Nina Blackwood is your host for Absolutely 80’s!  It’s three hours of great 80’s music and memories and one of the songs you’ll hear on the show is today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Richard Marx with “Endless Summer Nights”.

The singer from Chicagoland wrote the song on a trip to Hawaii with his then girlfriend (and eventually wife) Cynthia Rhodes as a tribute to summer loves that go their separate ways in the fall.  Richard said the original song appeared on his first demo tape that nearly every record company heard and then turned him down.

Well EMI-Manhattan Records signed Richard Marx and it worked out pretty well for them.  “Endless Summer Nights” surprisingly was released in January of 1988 and it went on become a #2 hit.

On what’s been a rainy Friday, take a trip back to the late 80’s with Richard Marx with “Endless Summer Nights” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
