It was on this date in 1987 that Shelley Long aka Diane Chambers left the series “Cheers”. So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1987 for a tune that was on the charts this week from Huey Lewis & the News with “I Know What I Like”.
We all remember Sam & Diane on those classic Cheers episodes, the “will they or won’t they” tension was built up for 5 seasons when Shelley decided to leave the show, the writers wrote Diane Chambers out of the show, though she did appear in the show’s final episode in 1993.
Huey Lewis & the News were riding high after the success of “Sports”, their followup album “Fore” kept their success rolling delivering 5 top ten hits including “I Know What I Like” which reached #9 on the Hot 100 and featured then San Francisco 49’er legends Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, and Jerry Rice in the background.
