Throwback Thursday Forgotten 45: Dwight Twilley

By Jeff Winfield May 2, 2024 | 3:43 PM

This Sunday morning at 8 on American Top 40 the 80’s Casey Kasem takes us back to May 5th, 1984, it’s where I found this lost 80’s classic, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is from Dwight Twilley with “Girls”.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma native originally recorded with Phil Seymour under the name The Dwight Twilley Band, their debut song “I’m On Fire” became a hit in 1975 with very little promotion.  Along the way they became good friends with Tom Petty, in fact Phil did backing vocals for a couple of Petty songs.

In 1984 Dwight released his solo album “Jungle” which delivered his signature hit “Girls” which reached #16 on the charts.  Sadly, he passed away last October at the age of 72.

The video features football, cheerleaders, and even Tom Petty, it’s Dwight Twilley with “Girls” today’s Forgotten 45.
