Wednesday’s Forgotten 45: Player

By Jeff Winfield Apr 24, 2024 | 3:43 PM

Every Saturday morning at 9 105.7 KOKZ brings you classic American Top 40 the 70’s!  This weekend Casey features the top songs from April 29th, 1978, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Player with “This Time I’m In It For Love”.

The group was founded in Los Angeles in the 70’s and first went on the road in 1977 opening for Gino Vanelli and then Boz Scaggs.  Their very first hit “Baby Come Back” went all the way to #1 and “This Time I’m In It For Love” was their 2nd single, and it went to #10 on the charts.  They’ve often been called a “One Hit Wonder”, but this proves they are wrong!

Eric Clapton invited them to open his 1978 tour and the band went away from their signature sound, adding a harder sound with more guitars, grew their hair out longer and then the hits dried up.

Take a trip back to 1978 with a live performance of Player with “This Time I’m In It For Love” today’s Forgotten 45.
