Friday’s Forgotten 45: Billy Joel

By Jeff Winfield Apr 19, 2024 | 3:42 PM

As we head into the weekend for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to the summer of ’85 for Billy Joel’s “You’re Only Human (Second Wind)”.

The song appears on his Greatest Hits Vol I and II double album and Billy wrote the song as a way to help teens dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts.  In his original version of the song, Billy thought the song was too depressing, so he recorded it with a bouncy beat.  He also donated all the proceeds from the song to the National Committee for Youth Suicide Prevention.

If you missed the CBS special of Billy’s 100th show at Madison Square Garden, it airs again tonight at 8pm.  It’s Billy Joel with “You’re Only Human (Second Wind)” today’s Forgotten 45.
