It’s Friday and time for the Forgotten 45 at 3:45 and a song you can hear again Saturday night at 9 on Absolutely 80’s with Nina Blackwood. It’s Johnny Kemp with “Just Got Paid”.
Johnny began singing in the Bahamas when he was just 13 years old and moved to New York at the age of 20 becoming a successful songwriter and session musician. He signed his first record deal in 1986 and found his greatest success with his 1987 album “The Secrets of Flying”.
“Just Got Paid” was a #1 dance hit and reached #10 on the pop chart with the new jack swing sound of the late 80’s. Sadly Johnny Kemp died in 2015 off the coast of Montego Bay at the age of 55, apparently he slipped and fell on some rocks and hit his head and drowned.
