For Monday’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to this week in 1989, 35 years ago for Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians with “What I Am”.
Their only hit for the group who started as a trio in the early 80’s in Dallas where they attended Booker T. Washington High School for Performing & Visual Arts, Edie joined the group in 1985 after being asked to join the band onstage during a show.
“What I Am” went to #7 on the charts in early ’89 and the released one more album together in 1990, after that Edie Brickell left the band and married Paul Simon in 1992. She said they were performing the song on Saturday Night Live when she noticed Paul standing in front of the cameraman. The couple has three children.
A pretty funky tune from the late 80’s check out the video to “What I Am” by Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians today’s Forgotten 45.
