On Saturday Footloose celebrated it’s 40th anniversary and yesterday Molly Ringwald celebrated her 56th birthday.  The star of 80’s classic movies “Sixteen Candles”, “The Breakfast Club”, and “Pretty in Pink”, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we pay tribute with the Psychedelic Furs with “Pretty in Pink”.

All of those movies were directed by the great John Hughes, who is just so happens, shared the same birthday as Molly. So which came first, the song “Pretty in Pink” or the movie.  It was the song that was recorded in 1981, Molly liked the song and brought it to John, who decided to name the movie after it.

Of course the song that is most associated with “Pretty in Pink” is OMD’s “If You Leave” but like many 80’s classics the soundtrack was popular and included bands like New Order, INXS, and Suzanne Vega.

Happy Birthday Molly Ringwald, here are the Psychedelic Furs with “Pretty in Pink” today’s Forgotten 45.
