No I’m not going to Rick Roll you…or am I? Happy Birthday to Rick Astley who is celebrating his 58th birthday today, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1989 for “It Would Take a Strong Strong Man”.
I remember hearing Rick for the first time, his voice just boomed out of the radio and frankly didn’t look like he sounded. And I’m saying that as a radio guy! His first two singles both went to #1 “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Together Forever” and “Strong Man” was the third hit from his debut album “Whenever You Need Somebody” and it reached #10 on the charts in the US and was a #1 hit in Canada.
In 2007 he found fame again as “Rickrolling” became popular using his song to prank people when they would click on links to a story. He was initially hesitant about this new-found fame, but he leaned into it and embraced the situation.
