Hello weekend! Nice to see you! It’s Friday which means it’s time for another Absolutely 80’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 and a song you can hear again Saturday on Nina Blackwood’s show from 9 to midnight on 105.7 KOKZ. Today’s choice is from The Power Station with “Get It On (Bang a Gong)”.
The Power Station was a supergroup featuring Robert Palmer, Tony Thompson from Chic, and John and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran. As the story goes, the original plan for the collaboration was do have different singers play with the Taylor’s and Thompson. They invited Robert Palmer in to record another song when he mentioned he had done a demo for “Get It On”. After hearing that, they knew they had their singer for the project.
The song of course was a hit for T Rex in 1971 and the Power Station version in 1985 reached #9 on the charts, one spot higher than the original.
