Better known as the KC in “KC and the Sunshine Band”, Harry Wayne Casey is celebrating his 72nd birthday today, so we’re celebrating with their comeback hit from 1982 “Give It Up” as today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45.
Best known for their disco tunes, the band was formed in 1973 in Florida and came up with the name from the lead singers last name, and the Sunshine state of Florida. The group had a run of success that delivered six top 10 hits, and five #1’s.
“Give It Up” was a comeback tune for the group after the backlash against disco artists in the early 80’s. The song was a #1 hit in England, and reached #18 in the US.
