Today is the 64th birthday of Susanna Hoffs, the lead singer of the Bangles, so we’ll celebrate on today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 with their song “Hazy Shade of Winter”!

The song was originally done by Simon & Garfunkel in the Fall of 1966 and reached #13 on the charts.  The Bangles had been performing the song in shows since ’83 and when they were approached to record a song for the motion picture “Less Than Zero”, they decided to record “Winter”.

All four members shared in doing the lead vocals for this song, and they’ve commented that this song sounded the most like the band when they were live.  The song was a smash hit, reaching #2 on the charts in 1988 and you can hear the song again this Sunday morning on American Top 40.
