For Monday’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we celebrate the 63rd birthday of Sade with her first ever hit from 1985, “Smooth Operator”.

Born in Nigeria and raised in England, she studied at the St. Martin’s School of Art in London and gained some recognition as a fashion designer and model before being signed to Epic Records in ’83.

The band recorded their debut album “Diamond Life” which fused soul, jazz, and pop into a project that sold over 10 million copies worldwide and delivered 4 singles, including “Operator” which reached #5.

Happy Birthday Sade!  Check out the live performance of “Smooth Operator”, today’s Forgotten 45.
