Happy 77th Birthday to Kiss drummer Peter Criss! It’s only right that we feature the song that he wrote on his birthday, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is “Beth”.
Originally released as the B side to “Detroit Rock City”, the song appears on their “Destroyer” album. The record company released it as a single and it became the band’s biggest commercial hit, rising to #7 on the Hot 100.
The song’s television debut was on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special on October 29, 1976, where Criss lip-synced a shortened version of the song while miming on piano. Live, “Beth” was performed by Criss alone on stage backed by a tape of the instrumental track.
