The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning starting toy night at 6 through Saturday morning at 6.  This warning includes most of the listening area including Cedar Rapids, Marion, Iowa City, Waterloo, and Cedar Falls.

Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible and with winds gusting as high as 55 mph, blizzard conditions will also be possible with extreme cold wind chills as well. Wind chills as low as 30 to 40 below will be possible.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

When the snow ends, the winds increase and temperatures plummet Thursday night into Saturday AM. Near blizzard conditions with dangerous wind chills Thursday into Saturday morning are expected. If travelling plan for the possibility of being stranded. Have a car winter kit!

A blizzard warning may be needed for portions of the area. The blizzard threat
will occur after the snow ends. With lower snowfall amount confidence, we still
are not exactly sure where the best chance for a blizzard is. Expect later
refinements. Regardless, this will be a high impact storm!
