This Saturday 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 70’s as Casey Kasem features the top songs from December 16th, 1972.  It’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from America with “Ventura Highway”.

The song was written by Dewey Bunnell who as a kid had lived in Omaha and his family moved to California in 1963.  One of the times they were driving down the coast, their car had a flat tire, and Dewey stood and looked at the ocean and the imagery provided the inspiration for this classic.

The song went on to be a #8 hit for America and includes so many iconic lines. “Alligator lizards in the air?”  He says they are cloud formations.  The song also mentions “purple rain” a full decade before Prince!  And Jessie Ventura the former wrestler was such a big fan of the group, that’s where he found the name Ventura!

Enjoy a live performance of “Ventura Highway” today’s Forgotten 45.
