For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to this week in 1987 when Bruce Springsteen was on the charts with “Brilliant Disguise”.

The song appeared on Bruce’s “Tunnel of Love” album and was the first release from the project.  It went to #1 on the Rock chart and #5 on the pop charts. Of course recorded in his home state of New Jersey.

The emotions expressed in the song include confusion, jealousy and anxiety about whether the singer’s wife has become a stranger to him. The parallels with Springsteen’s personal life at the time are evident: he had recently married then-model and actress Julianne Phillips and the two would divorce in 1989.
