It was on this date in 1988 the universe gifted us with the release of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys debut album Volume 1. It’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 with “Handle With Care”.

What a collection of talent!  Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison.  The idea was hatched in 1987 when Jeff was working with George Harrison on his “Cloud Nine” album.  They decided to collaborate for “Handle With Care” and make it a bonus cut on George’s next European release.

But it was deemed “too good” to waste, so the superstars gathered to record Volume 1 as the Traveling Wilburys.  The album was a commercial and critical success winning a Grammy award and selling over 3 million copies.

Sadly, Roy Orbison passed away just two months after the release of the album and of course since then we’ve lost both George Harrison and Tom Petty.

So on this cold Monday October day, lets remember the Traveling Wilburys with “Handle With Care” today’s Forgotten 45.
