Every Saturday morning from 9 until noon, 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 70’s. This Saturday Casey counts down the top songs from October 12th, 1974, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Gordon Lightfoot with “Carefree Highway”.

1974 was a great year for Gordon. His “Sundown” album reached #1 and was a smash hit in his native Canada.  And “Carefree Highway” was a top 10 hits in the states and a #1 Easy Listening song as well.

The title comes from a section of Arizona State Route 74 in Phoenix. Gordon thought it would make a good title for a song, so he wrote it down, put it in his suitcase, and it stayed there for eight months.

We’re glad he found the note. The great Gordon Lightfoot has today’s Forgotten 45 with “Carefree Highway”. Check out his live performance of the song from a concert in Reno.
