Every weekend 105.7 KOKZ features classic American Top 40 countdowns, the 70’s on Saturday morning from 9 to noon and the 80’s on Sunday from 8 to 12. This Sunday Casey features July 12th, 1986 it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45, “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Stewart.
Jermaine moved to Chicago as a youngster and got his start as a dancer on Soul Train, that’s where he met Jody Watley. When Soul Train moved to Los Angeles, they both auditioned for the group Shalamar, Jody was picked, Jermaine was not, though he did tour with the group as a dancer. While in London he met Mikey Craig of Culture Club who helped him get set up with recording a demo and he sang backing vocals on their hit “Miss Me Blind.”
“Clothes Off” reached #5 on the charts in 1986 and he had some success overseas but sadly Jermaine Stewart passed away in March of 1997 from liver cancer at the age of 39.
Take a trip back to the 80’s with today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45!
