I found this one-hit wonder on the charts this week 35 years ago in 1987, The System and “Don’t Disturb This Groove”. The song was a hit the summer of ’87 and reached #4 on the Hot 100.
The System was a duo consisting of David Frank and Mic Murphy. David recalls he was working on the musical track first, spending several days on different ideas and options. He thought he might be wasting his time, but Mic liked it and wrote the lyrics. It needed a link between the verse and chorus so they worked out the “hang a sign up on the door” section. The record company didn’t think it should be first single but they did, and they were right!
