Christopher Cross is celebrating birthday #71 today, so to celebrate I’ve reached back in the archives to 1981 when Christopher hit #1 with “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)”, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45.

The song won an Oscar for Best Original Song for the movie “Arthur” starring Dudley Moore as a drunken millionaire.  It ended up being one of the biggest grossing films of 1981 earning over 95 million dollars at the box office.

As for Christopher Cross, he was seemingly everywhere from 1979 to 1982 with songs like “Sailing”, “Ride Like the Wind”, and  “Never Be the Same”.  He will be out touring the U.S. later this summer.

Check out a live performance of “Arthurs Theme” from 2012 from Christopher Cross.
