I heard Mike Waters talking about the Amphitheater of Dreams this morning and who you’d like to bring back for one final concert. It just so happens that on this date in 1969, country superstar Glen Campbell topped the charts with the Jimmy Webb song ‘Galveston’. Sadly Glen lost his battle with Alzheimers back in 2017 at the age of 81
My earliest music memories included the 60’s classics from Glen like “Wichita Lineman”, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix”, and “Gentle on My Mind” that my parents had on vinyl back in the day. These are songs that truly stand the test of time and of course Glen’s stardom crossed over to international success.
Today’s Forgotten 45 “Galveston” describes a soldier waiting to go into battle who thinks of the woman he loves and his hometown of Galveston, Texas: “I still hear your sea waves crashing/as I watch the cannons flashing/ I clean my gun/And dream of Galveston.”
The Forgotten 45 is sponsored by Pro Wall Construction, they are seeking individuals with skills in finish carpentry, sheet rock, and finishing. They need experienced and semi-experienced workers. Call (641) 696-5919, veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
Take a trip down memory lane with this video of the legendary Glen Campbell.
