Do you remember the first time you heard “Rapture” by Blondie? In 1981 when this song came out of the speakers I was like “What?!” The song is a mix of a new wave, disco, hip hop, and even rap, long before it became mainstream. In fact it was the first mainstream song with rap that hit #1 on the charts and it was at the top of the charts on this date in 1981.
The song was a monster hit certified gold and featured a great video that debuted on Solid Gold that year and became the first rap video added to regular rotation on MTV.
