We were all saddened to hear of the passing of Michael Nesmith last Friday at the age of 78. He’s the third of The Monkees to pass, joining Davy Jones, who died in 2012 & Peter Tork in 2019.
Today’s Forgotten 45 was the final Top 20 hit for The Monkees, “That Was Then, This is Now” was released in 1986. A Monkees TV show marathon was broadcast on MTV as part of their 20th anniversary, which sparked a return to Monkee-mania. Their tour dates grew from smaller to larger venues and became one of the biggest live acts of 1986 and 1987. A new greatest hits collection was issued, reaching platinum status.
