Janet Jackson – Rhythm Nation

Janet Jackson and her producing team of Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam from Minneapolis, MN, are avid TV watchers. While creating for her new album, the were bouncung ideas around while switching between MTV and CNN.

Music culture news paired with hard-hitting news stories gave them the idea of trying to tell people about the problem with race relations and how to deal with it, learn from it. After all, people of all races and creeds like music and can’t help to dance to the rhythm of many…

The idea to create a “color-free” nation of music, dance, rhythm, they came up with Janet Jackson’s hit, title track of her album from 1990, “Rhythm Nation”.

It was released as the second single from ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ (the year representing the year The Star Spangled Banner was written), the video was filmed in back and white to show no discrimination of color. All the actors and dancers in the video came from all different back grounds and different races, all dancing to the same rhythm!

“Rhythm Nation” made it all the way to the #2 spot on the Hot 100!
