There’s no experience like a first time experience. One of the biggest is First Time Concert! I still remember mine, November 3rd, 1981. 40 years ago today as a matter of fact!
I saw Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult in Minneapolis. It was unlike anything else I’d ever experienced. I went with my cousin, who knew more about these bands than I did. Foghat came out and I think I knew Slowride by them but nothing else. As soon as they started getting into I Just Want to Make Love to You and Fool For the City, I knew them better than I thought.
When Blue Oyster Cult got onstage it was a different kind of a spectacle. Foghat stood there and played…which was fine with me, but BOC brought out huge Godzillas and reapers, etc… I was also a big fan of The Doors back then and Robbie Krieger (former Doors guitarist) came out and played Roadhouse Blues with the boys at the end of the encore. Perfect topping on the cake for me.
