The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony

From the band’s third album, ‘Urban Hymns’, released in 1997, The Verve was part of the 90s Brit-pop influx into the U.S. and rest of the world.
Much like The British Invasion of the 60s, Brit-pop also helped shape pop culture and music everywhere.
The Verve was fairly unknown in the states until the first single from ‘Urban Hymns’ hit American radio and then MTV.
“Bitter Sweet Symphony” is one of the best songs to come out of the 90s and is the only song from the band that managed to gain any success here. Sadly, The Verve broke up not long after the success of the song, due to infighting among the members and lots of turmoil regarding the business side of things.
The music video was nominated for Video of the Year, Best Group Video, and Best Alternative Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Song.
It peaked at #12 on the Hot 100.
