Prince & The N.P.G. – Money Don’t Matter 2 Night

The fifth single to be released from Prince & The N.P.G.’s 1991 album, ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ was critically acclaimed in many ways, yet only broke into the Top 30.
“Money Don’t Matter 2 Night” was written by Prince and backup singer, Rosie Gaines. It deals with the problem money creates and yet, solves at the same time.
Two videos were made for the song. Spike Lee directed a video with no shots of Prince, but of a poor African-American family and the struggles of living in poverty. MTV didn’t like it as it was too political. Another video, directed by Sotera Tschetter, an art director/producer/video director who has done a lot of work with Prince.
The song was a smooth, R&B/Soul/Pop song that was a moderate hit, making it to the Top 40, peaking at #23 on the Hot 100!
