Prince released “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man” as the first single from his ninth studio album, ‘Sign O’ The Times’, in 1987.
A double album and the first to be released under Prince as a solo artist since 1982’s ‘1999’. The difference is that he had a backing band on ‘1999’ and on this album, Prince performs everything on his own in the studio.
A video released to MTV certainly helped radio play for this song as it was taken from the full-length concept concert film, Sign O’ The Times. The song peaked at #10 on the Hot 100.
