Michael and Janet Jackson – Scream

In 1995, Epic records released the EPIC compilation, HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. It was a  2-disc set with most of Michael Jackson’s big hits and a whole CD of new material.

The first single from the album was a duet with his sister, Janet! “Scream” was a loud, bombastic song that blew up on the radio and MTV.

The black and white video for the song aired on MTV and cost 7 million to make, making it the most expensive music video ever made to that point, by Guinness Book of World Records. Director Mark Romanek refutes this, saying there were at least two others that were made for more money.

The song is a retaliatory song directed at the tabloid media and it’s coverage of the child sexual abuse accusations made against in in 1993.

It raced up the charts as did sales for ‘HIStory…” “Scream” peaked at #5 on the Hot 100!
