Gin Blossoms – ‘Til I Hear It From You

The Gin Blossoms had already had big hits with “Hey Jealousy”, “Allison Road”, “Found Out About You”. “Until I Fall Away” and some others, but the producers of the movie Empire Records wanted them for their soundtrack to be released under the the Warner Bros. label, but the band and their distribution came from A&E and they wouldn’t give permission and rights to release. So, the producers had to go to Warner Bros. to get permission to give the rights to the release to A&M, which they did, because the film wasn’t seen by many (at that time) and they figured it was a flop.

THEN – The movie had a HUGE cult following after being released to rental stores and VHS and DVD media and so, with it, came the popularity of the soundtrack!

“‘TIl I Hear It From You” was released on the band’s 1995 album, ‘Congratulations I’m Sorry’ and the “Empire Records” soundtrack, helping to add the song to the ones that helped shape the 90s generation.

It ended up peaking at #9 on the Hot 100 when released as a double A-side single with another hit, “Follow You Down”.
