It’s Sav’s 60th birthday! Happy Birthday to Def Leppard’s bassist Rick Savage!

Def Leppard – Let’s Get Rocked

The album to come after the MULTI-Platinum ‘Hysteria’ had a high bar to overcome. No one was sure if Def Leppard could capture lightning in a bottle – TWICE!

They certainly tried… In my opinion, ‘Adrenalize’ was subpar. Had it come before ‘Hysteria’ I may think differently, but probably not. While there were some rockers on it, the hits, really centered on mid-tempo songs and ballads. If it weren’t for the first single and lead track off the album, “Let’s Get Rocked”, I may have ignored this album, altogether.

I like a good power ballad, but the ones on this album felt forced… Like they were told to write some power ballads that would hit radio and stay there, so they focused on JUST that.

But I digress… “Let’s Get Rocked” was a great rocker and was a perfect first release for the new album. It’s sound and production made it seem like it was a lost track from ‘Hysteria’, held over for the new album.

However, I also think that the loss of Steve Clark did change the sound a bit. Steve was a rocker and liked the heavy riffs. Without his input, I think Joe Elliot focused too much on radio play and the women who would be buying the new album. He kind of lost sight of the male fans who still wanted some heavy riff-rock songs. That’s my feeling, anyway.

‘Adrenalize’ still went multi-platinum and “Let’s Get Rocked” helped that climb. It peaked at #15 on the Hot 100!
